Why buy from camarush?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

I got a call from a friend on Tuesday, “I was just cruising LargeMart* and saw the GoPro for $100!”

Which was followed up by an email from another friend on Wednesday, “I see that SouthAmericanRiver-xyz.com* has the Contour for $100 less than you guys.”, followed up with “What is up with your pricing?”

The same question comes to us all the time.  The answer is that we carry our cameras for the same price as everyone else, whether in a store or online.  The cameras our acquaintances have seen are not the same cameras that we carry.  Usually, the cameras that they see for sale are the Standard Definition version (to which we only carry the highest end HD versions).

GoPro and Contour bind their resellers to a Minimum Advertised Price policy, meaning we can only advertise the price of our camera as low as they allow.  So you won’t find a better deal anywhere than camarush. Go ahead, check!

When you are done checking, come back here, because we include free rush shipping!  And no one else has better service than camarush.  Check out our research on a daily basis, or through our Facebook and Twitter pages.  We are always updating with the latest techniques and cool tips!

So the next time you are cruising your local LargeMart Warehouse and spy a cool new GoPro for sale, read the box!  It’s probably not the camera you want to make your epic movie with!

How much memory do you need?

Friday, June 25th, 2010

The amount of memory that you need can be very different for each person and depends upon many things. If you happen to be recording short bursts of video and have the opportunity throughout the day to download files to a computer, you may be just fine with a 4GB to 8GB card. However, if you record long sessions or multiple sessions without a chance to review the files and recharge your battery, you’ll likely need a 16GB to 32GB card and multiple batteries.

In most cases larger 32GB cards only make sense if you are going to be carrying extra batteries or recharging (without the ability to download files). Another thing to consider is that other things can effect recording time, such as temperature, actual images(s) being recorded, etc. We have put together a general spreadsheet that compares the GoPro HD HERO and the ContourHD1080p where you can see the different recording times relative to the format you record in and the size of the card you plan on using.

This spreadsheet contains a wealth of other useful data, such as viewing angle of each lens in specific modes, and video bit rates.

HD vs. SD

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

At camarush, we founded the principals of the company based around our hobby: making awesome videos of our sports adventures.  After all, the old mantra says to build your business around your passion.

Not only do we enjoy making jaw-dropping videos, but we are always looking to create with the latest technology and techniques.  So we carried this idea over to our business as well, and only offer the items we know are the best and coolest products on the market!

That is why we only offer the latest High-Def (HD) cameras.  Other folks choose to sell older standard definition brands or models, to which we shrug.  If the guys at camarush won’t make an SD video, why should you?  We don’t even offer the 720 (30p) version of the ContourHD.  We only offer the 1080p version (which shoots 720 60p as well).  Nothing but the latest and greatest!

So what’s the difference between HD and SD?  For the most part, it’s pixel size.  More pixels = a clearer picture.  Take a look at this image to see two HD sizes and an SD size (480 is the pixel size of SD resolution, 720 and 1080 are two HD pixel resolution sizes):

But an added benefit to these newer cameras is that they offer much better coloring and lighting to the picture.  Not only that, but interlacing is completely eliminated and in 720 (60p) mode, you even get double the frames which makes for great slow motion video, and smoother normal speed video as well!

Even if your TV does not have the capability of playing HD, every computer has the capability.  So do you have a good reason not to go HD when making the ultimate video?  We challenge you!

Introducing the camarush Mobile Camera Guide

Tuesday, June 22nd, 2010

Do you ever get frustrated when you are out in the wilderness and you want to change the resolution your camera is recording in?  Or how to change to time-lapse mode?

We initially countered this problem by introducing quick access to PDF versions of the GoPro and Contour instruction guides, posted on our research blog here.

Now, we have the ULTIMATE solution!  We here at camarush bring you the camarush Mobile Camera Guide!  The camarush Mobile Camera Guide is a website coded specifically to be accessed by mobile phones, including the iPhone and Blackberry.

Now, instead of scanning through the entire instruction PDF, you can simply click on the quick reference section that you are interested in.  The guide is laid out in an easy to read format and makes for great reference for not only the camera instructions, but also handy tips and tricks, and even quick links to some of our fantastic custom mounts.

The camarush Mobile Camera Guide also has a link to the old PDF instructions, in case you are planning on going into an area that you know will not have cell reception.

The camarush Mobile Camera Guide will be continually updated over the years as new features and cameras come to market.  We are open to suggestions to make this more useful. Bookmark this link on your smart phone for camera settings (and hints) on the go:
