If you have a Drift camera, the manufacturer has just released a new firmware upgrade lending some more features to the camera. We like to check our firmware often, make sure you are always running with a recent version if you want to get the full functionality out of your camera (along with the least bugs!).
There has been a little bit of a trend in sports videos for the past few months in using a plugin called Twixtor. What Twixtor does is create super slow motion. Normal slow motion is usually around 60 frames per second (FPS). Once you go beyond this frame rate, your slo-mo will tend to get jerky and not look that great.
Super slo-mo in Twixtor can be much higher FPS. Most people are changing their frame rate to be about 1000 FPS. What Twixtor technically does is use a computer algorithm to automatically fill in the missing pieces between your normal frames. The results are pretty amazing, and super smooth when compared to the normal “slow motion” controls in your NLE.
For a really great comparison of raw footage, slo-mo, and Twixtor slo-mo, check out this great sample video:
Also, check out some of the videos people have been making with this effect while using a GoPro (technically, you could be using a Drift or Contour as well):
Back in September, we helped a fundraiser in Connecticut named SPOKES get a few cameras to help record their day for a video that would later attract more donors. We wrote about that here.
SPOKES is a suicide prevention awareness foundation, helping to eliminate the stigma around suicide. The organization has created a video of the day and we thought that we’d share it with you.
To donate to the SPOKES foundation, go here. Here is the video!
Pablo Aldunate put together this cool little montage of some of the time-lapses that he has shot this year. Everything in this video was shot with a GoPro.
We rent and sell the GoPro HD HERO helmet cam here at camarush. Not only that, but we also sell our exclusive camalapse product that helps you to make panning time-lapses! In addition, pick up one of our Gorillapod tripods to hold your GoPro for long shots where you need the camera to stay steady!
This is a cool little video of a couple’s vacation in Brazil. Using a Canon T2i (550D) and GoPro (of which most of the shots came from), he put together his entire vacation into one quick song. Great, quick editing, and a variety of activities and shots make this one great video!

We here at camarush are huge hockey fans, so we thought it was just cool that this particular goalie setup a Drift camera on the goal (and at one point on his helmet) to capture some hockey action of his local league (or practice, or pick-up, or whatever it might be). Throw in some hard metal and it’s an enjoyable watch! Just be careful that the other team’s center doesn’t decide to use your Drift as a target!
It’s a kick-save and a beauty!
We sell and rent the Drift HD170. Check it out, it’s a great helmet (POV) cam that features a built-in LCD display!
GoPro does it again with an amazing motocross video. They had at least 3 drivers hooked up with some helmet cameras and added in some other cool jib footage to make this a great all-around video.
Hi everyone- If you have come to our site recently to purchase a camalapse, you may be wondering why it does not have a buy button next to it!
We have been so overwhelmed with purchases recently that we ran out of our famous time-lapse egg! But fear not, we should have them re-stocked in around two weeks from now. And for even more exciting news, we may have a camalapse design refresh soon as well!
Why the popular rush on camalapses? Well, we really don’t know. But what we do know is that we tend to see a buying spree on camalapses whenever our good friend, (and fimmaker extraordinaire) Philip Bloom decides to post a new camalapse-style video. For his latest little fun video, check out this:
Now in stock is the long life battery, which lasts for about 4 hours of recording time. This is the longest life battery you can get for any of the helmet cameras that we sell and is great for when you are shooting a long segment or just can’t make it back to a power outlet anytime soon.
The Drift External Microphone is also a unique feature to only the Drift HD170. This is an external stereo lavaliere microphone that can clip on to your shirt or jacket (or inside of your helmet) and record your voice while talking during the action of a sport you are recording. It really eliminates wind noise that is so commonly associated with helmet cams and focuses just on you. The mic connects to the rear of the camera and we will soon also carry a rubber cover for the back of the Drift so that you will not have to worry about rain or snow getting into the camera.
Drift has also come out with a great carrying case, which stows away the camera conveniently, along with it’s mounts and extra memory cards.
Like other manufacturers, Drift has delivered a great suction cup mount for use in or even on a car, or other smooth surface. These suction cup mounts are super strong and we have even seen videos of people mounting them to plane exteriors (obviously we don’t know a thing about air dynamics so we can’t recommend this)!
Coming soon will be a few other neat mounts that we have been informed of. We are delighted with the Drift HD170 and give it a solid recommendation! Buy one or rent one from our online store now!
Great editing to the music, a variety of angles, and a crash at the end all make this a fun video to watch. Shot entirely on the GoPro, which we sell and rent.
