Contour Firmware Updates

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Not sure why this is the first time we’ve noticed this, but Contour has released updated firmware for the cameras that we sell here on camarush.com in the past 4 months.

These are relatively minor updates, but good to have never the less.

Both updates are very easy to do when following the instructions on their pages. Feel free to chime in here in the comments section, or in the forums if you have any questions.

ContourGPS Will Soon Live-Stream to Smartphones

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Huge news from Contour today as they announced their ContourGPS camera will soon have the ability to use a smartphone (such as an iPhone or Android-based device) to view what the camera is seeing live. This is incredibly useful, allowing you to line up your shots easier and review the footage you just recorded while on the scene (rather than learning it was a crappy shot back home on your computer)!

Not only will the new viewfinder allow you to better align your shots, but you can also update your camera settings out in the wild without your computer! This is HUGE for Contour, as one of the biggest complaints about the camera is that you can currently only switch between two pre-programmed settings while out in the wild. Forget to pre-program your Contour iris for a snow-based setting? No problem. Need to change to a night mode on the fly? No Problem!

Even cooler is that the functionality is already built-in to our currently selling ContourGPS camera. They secretly integrated a Bluetooth chip within the camera, without disclosing what it would be used for. I can think of a few other useful ideas for that chip if it has that type of programability, such as synching it with a remote so you can start/stop many cameras at once (currently available in the Drift HD170). Or how about synching it to your bluetooth headset better sound of a driver?

In any case, we are really happy to see Contour come out with this news. In fact, we here at camarush were working loosely for a year on this concept but could never make it come to fruition. Now Contour has stepped up the game and come out with a great little piece of technology!

Buy your ContourGPS here and get in the game early!  This newly announced functionality is expected to appear summer 2011.

Contour Releases ContourGPS HD Camera

Tuesday, September 14th, 2010

Contour came out with a cool new product, the ContourGPS. This camera contains a built-in GPS receiver that tracks your location multiple times per second with pinpoint accuracy, so you are able to capture your location, speed, and elevation while recording in beautiful hands free HD!

Watch your run with an interactive map and video player that allows you to see and control the action. Challenge and compare stats with your friends to see who measures up.

As off-road adventurers, we love this concept. It gives the ability to share the trails we travel on visually in multiple ways, for our friends to check out, as well as other people around the globe. Not to mention, we are always interested in how fast we are going (or how slow in our case!).

With this announcement, Contour has also added some new features to the camera, such as the ability to take still photos and time-lapses!  This should be very cool since we used to have to break out either a GoPro or Drift to do this before.

Contour has also decreased the price of their ContourHD1080p cameras to coincide with this announcement.  So if you feel like GPS is not for you, then now is a great time to pick one of these awesome cameras up!

We will have these cool new cameras in stock sometime late October or early November. Pre-order the ContourGPS here and be the envy of all your friends!
